Rock & Rose Landscapes Rocks Garden Show With 5 Gold Medals

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2008 -- With its garden entry, "Living on the Edge," Rock and Rose Landscapes http://www.rockandrose.com became this year's top award winner, at the 2008 San Francisco Flower and Garden Show, capturing 5 gold medals. The Garden, a coastal canyon retreat, received high praise from the show judges.

"The garden looks like it was carved out of the native landscape," said judges for the California Landscape Contractors Association. "The space is functional, balanced and the plants are all compatible, with a great sense of scale and excellent workmanship. It is a welcoming living space"

Judges for Pacific Horticulture Magazine recognized the garden's value to the Bay Area's garden community: "Living on the Edge successfully demonstrates regional garden design. The landscape shows a consistency and compatibility with the coastal Mediterranean region. This comes out in its use of color, setting and plants. The boldness of its sun areas is carried by the use of drought tolerant species."

To create the garden, Rock and Rose teamed with garden designers Davis Dalbok of Living Green and Tim O'Shea of Greenworks www.greenworksgardens.com. "Working with Davis and Tim has been a dream," said Rock & Rose owner Mike Boss. "We have been working together for the last few years, and the synergy between the companies is just great. The talent, the creative energy, and the competence we collectively bring is at the highest level I've seen in my two decades of running a landscaping company."

The Garden, which was sponsored by Garden Design Magazine, also won gold awards from the American Horticulture Society, The California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers, and from the Garden Show itself.

The garden featured a raised dining terrace, a sacred bathing spa, steps carved from the trunk of a 125 year old Monterey Cypress tree, and some very exciting plants. "With the use of succulents and proteas in the sunny portion of the garden, we were able to create a jewel-box planting area that sparkles with color," said Boss referring to a section of the garden that at times had show attendees lined up 4 and 5 people deep to get a peek. "Then, in the shaded part of the garden, under the oaks, we used native ferns and woodland wildflowers to create an area quiet enough for Buddha to serenely rest." Indeed, a centuries-old Buddha from Bali, provided by Living Green www.livinggreen.com in San Francisco, sat at under a towering Oak tree, as if it had been resting there for centuries.
